Discontinuation of Social Courtesy Gifts and Small Promotional Items in Compliance with APEC Kuala Lumpur Principles

The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), in which the Japan Federation of Medical Devices Associations (JFMDA) participates, has established the Kuala Lumpur Principles (KL Principles)—ethical guidelines for interactions between the medical device industry, healthcare professionals, and patients.In alignment with these principles, JFMDA revised the Medical Device Industry Promotion Code on April 11, 2024, with implementation effective January 1, 2026.Accordingly, we will discontinue the provision of social courtesy gifts and small promotional items to healthcare professionals and institutions to further enhance transparency in our relationships.Examples of items to be discontinued:Social courtesy gifts (e.g., souvenirs, seasonal gifts, congratulatory flowers, condolence offerings)Promotional items (e.g., novelty goods such as pens and notebooks, event souvenirs, calendars)We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we continue to uphold the highest standards of ethics and transparency in our industry.

Public statement regarding recent lawsuit settlement

Topcon Healthcare is pleased to announce we have reached a positive resolution to a lawsuit with Carl Zeiss Meditec that has been a distraction for over four years. Topcon made a strategic decision to settle ongoing litigation with Zeiss to remove the distraction and allow us to focus on our mission to serve our customers and help improve access and quality of care while reducing the overall cost of care. We are known for quality products and quality people.  We intend to continue delivering value and intelligent solutions to our customers and the healthcare market.  Topcon admitted no wrongdoing in the settlement.  During the (4 years of) litigation almost all of Zeiss’s claims were dismissed or withdrawn.  The final settlement relates to a legacy version of Harmony (which has not been actively licensed by Topcon for several years).  Customers using our current product, Harmony RS, are not affected by the settlement, and none of the devices or software that we are promoting or plan to implement in the future are affected by the conditions in the settlement in any way.
